Trek the Wild Slopes of Mount Meru

Mount Meru rises to approximately 4,566 metres and offers one of Tanzania’s most rewarding multi-day mountain treks. The route passes through grassland and montane forest before climbing onto the mountain’s dramatic volcanic ridge, where the landscape becomes increasingly rugged and alpine.

Because the trek reaches significant altitude while remaining lower than Kilimanjaro, Mount Meru is also commonly considered as an acclimatisation experience before a Kilimanjaro climb. The journey combines mountain trekking with the unusual possibility of encountering wildlife on the lower slopes inside Arusha National Park.

Why Climb Mount Meru?

Spectacular Crater Landscapes
Trek along dramatic volcanic terrain with views across Mount Meru’s crater and surrounding highlands.

Wildlife on the Lower Slopes
The trek begins within Arusha National Park, where wildlife may be encountered around the lower mountain environments.

Excellent Kilimanjaro Preparation
Mount Meru offers useful high-altitude trekking experience before attempting the higher elevations of Kilimanjaro.

Views Toward Kilimanjaro
Clear conditions can reveal memorable views toward Mount Kilimanjaro from the upper slopes and ridge.
